GARISSA, Kenya, Jun, 26 – Garissa Township MP Aden Duale hit out at Nairobi Jubilee gubernatorial Candidate Polycarp Igathe for allegedly profiling communities for ‘cheap political expediency.’
Duale was reacting to a recent video that has since gone viral in which Igathe while addressing members from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) is seen accusing MCAs from a certain community of forgoing their mandate.
Igathe claimed that some three businessmen from a certain ethnic community have taken hostage the County Assembly of Nairobi and influenced the house to favour them in any transaction.
“Nairobi has 45 MCAs, who are kikuyu, I can tell you they are all controlled by three Somalis. that is a fact. the capture is too serious. even yesterday they were doing things that are completely illegal and illicit,” Igathe is heard saying in the video.
He went on, “Now you wonder what are we going to do with this money. the political culture of the kikuyu used to be lion-hearted, it has now become vulturistic and hyenaistic. The lion only eats the animal. It’s a predator. we are killing and tearing at one another,we have a few people who have become way too greedy,”.
Igathe claimed that the invoices being paid were the ones belonging to a particular group at the cost of county employees who were suffering.
Speaking at his residence when he hosted members from a number of Saccos that provide transport services to the public in the area mainly Matatu owners, drivers, and touts, Duale said Igathe displayed himself as a tribal leader and he is not fit to lead the people of Nairobi which is a home of 44 ethnic communities of Kenya.
He said such utterances coming from a person who wants to be a leaders especially a cosmopolitan county like Nairobi were regrettable. he told him to publicly apologize.
“The tribal bigotry shamelessly peddled in the sophisticated business arena is unfortunate and crass. It is more appalling coming from someone purporting to be learned and captain of industry. Profiling communities for cheap political expediency is the height of desperation. Nairobians are discerning and will totally reject such a poor project,” said Duale.
He added: “The City-County of Nairobi belongs to all Kenyans. It’s not a preserve of the few. Nairobians deserve a visionary leader who will restore its former glory not a tribal bigot and merchant of division,”
He went on: “After the outrageous publicity stunts flopped, he has resorted to the tribal card. Shame on him.
The former majority leader urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to investigate the remarks saying that he will personally lead a campaign against Igathe in the city.
He said such profiling of communities especially during this time of electioneering period can easily plunge the country into chaos.
