MACHAKOS, Kenya, Hun, 27 – One person died and an unknown number were injured following an accident at the Nairobi expressway on Saturday night.
The 10 pm accident at the Mlolongo Toll station saw several vehicles mangled into each other.
According to the Kenya National Highways Authority, a motorist who was exiting the toll station was driving at a high speed and crashed into a Tollbooth and other vehicles.
“The motorist crashed into the Toll Plaza and ran over other vehicles that were being cleared to exit. Consequently, the vehicle knocked one toll booth and injured one toll attendant besides the other motorists,” the authority said in a statement.
The injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals, and are said to be responding well to treatment.
However, KENHA has announced the closure of the Mlolongo Toll station exit, assuring motorists that they will put in place measures to avert such incidents.
Motorists are further advised to avoid overspeeding on the newly built infrastructure.
