LAMU, Kenya, Jul, 1 – The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have foiled a planned terror attack targeting the newly constructed Lamu Port South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor (LAPSSET).
According to preliminary reports from the KDF, 10 Al-Shabaab militants were killed during a fierce security operation between Sarira and Kolbio areas.
Several other militants were also injured during the operation within the expansive Boni forest.
KDF in a statement said that one rocket-propelled grenade launcher (RPG) was recovered alongside assault weapons and ammunition.
“The militants are part of the Jeysh Aymanteam led by Maalim Ayman who had paned to carry out attacks within the LAPSSET corridor,” read a section of the statement.
KDF further said that they are conducting operations within the area along with other security agencies in a bid to pacify the area.
