NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 6- A man who threw stones at Ngara police station while in protest has been charged in court.
The man is said to have been angered by an officer based at the station after he allegedly insulted his wife.
The officer is said to have referred to the man’s wife as a prostitute.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Principal magistrate Wandia Nyamu, the accused Justine Onami Osinde pleaded with the court to defer charges against him to enable him seek justice for his pregnant wife.
“Your honour before I take a plea I pray this court to refer me to a constitutional court to seek justice, my rights were violated by the police, and I want to know if it’s correct for a police officer whom I know to call my pregnant wife a prostitute,” he said.
The accused say the police officer who insulted his 7-month pregnant wife walked out of the bar while they were looking for a place to sleep since their house had been locked due to their financial status and began to attack her.
“The officer walked out of the bar and called my wife prostitute while undressing her that’s when I jumped to protect her,” he said.
He also told the court that other police officers who were on duty ganged up against him and handcuffed him to Ngara police station where the incident happened.
The accused told the court that he has five children who are schooling at National schools and his detention will jeopardize the rights of his children.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Sh20,000.
