NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul, 9 – Hesbon Okioma Auka was charged with accessory to theft after allegedly assisting thugs to withdraw money from a customer’s account.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate William Tullen, the accused is facing charges of accessory contrary to Section 396 as read with section 397 of the penal code.
The thugs are said to have withdrawn Sh9,912 from Peter Muturi’s account after his mobile phone was stolen.
Preliminary reports further indicate that the victim was cycling along Ngong forest sanctuary block road when his phone was stolen.
The incident occurred in Kianda shopping centre in Kibera on June 25, 2022.
“He was confronted by four young men who emerged from the forest while armed with Pangas and an axe, who ordered him to surrender everything. The four men forced him to give his phone’s password and Mpesa pin number before ordering him to disappear.” said court documents.
Auka was released on a cash bail of Sh100, 000 and an alternative bond of Sh200, 000.
The case will be mentioned on July 28, 2022.
