NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 14- Teachers are currently receiving students back to school after a ten days holiday

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha had urged the school principals not to send away students as the government will provide the capitation as soon as possible.

Kiambu Sub-County Director of Education, Roselyne Litaba, has also reemphasized on this but urged parents who might have some challenges to share with the headmasters of the students in order to come up with a payment plan on how to pay or clear their balances.

Although she acknowledged receiving cases where parents are lamenting on cases where certificates of students are being held in their former schools for not clearing fee balances, the Director said it was important for the parents and principals to come up with amicable solutions.

Speaking to KNA Litaba called upon the teachers to utilize the resources they have in schools even as they wait for the government to release the school capitation.

“Sometimes the public schools are disadvantaged because most of the parents are unable to make the required payments in time thus making it hard for the school to provide for every student and this becomes a challenge,” she said.

Speaking to some parents who were taking back their children to school they were of the opinion that head teachers and the government should take it easy on them and give them more time considering nowadays the school programmes are normally very short.

“I have a student who has a fee balance of Sh15,000, and am a single mother who earns peanuts therefore making it hard for me to raise such amount money in two weeks’ time,” Nancy Muthoni, a parent in one of the Kiambu high schools said.

Magoha said the government had disbursed capitation funds to primary and secondary schools adding that the funds will be in schools by the end of the week.
