SIAYA, Kenya, Jul, 17 – Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has assured school heads countrywide that the government will send money to their institutions within the coming week.

Prof. Magoha said that the government was committed to keeping its word to the school administrators, adding that by Monday, most schools will start receiving capitation money from his Ministry.

He was briefing the media at Bishop Okoth Mbaga Girls’ High School in Siaya, after laying a foundation stone for the construction of the Second Phase of the Competency-Based Curriculum in the institution.

The Cabinet Secretary, who was flanked by the Siaya County Commissioner, Jim Njoka, had earlier visited Obambo and Siaya Township Mixed Secondary Schools, where he also laid foundation stones for similar projects.

Prof. Magoha called on school principals to use money collected from parents as fees to run school activities, pending the release of the capitation funds.

“We are releasing capitation funds, at latest Monday when the money will hit the banks,” said Magoha.

The CS assured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to ensure the over 10,000 classrooms were completed before the next General Elections.

He said that already, his Ministry has successfully delivered 6,495 new classrooms under the First Phase of the CBC infrastructure development.

“In this Second Phase where we are targeting more than 3,500 classrooms, we are already at 10 percent,” he said, adding that he was confident that the remaining classrooms will be completed at least two days before the General Election day of August 9, 2022.
