NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 20- Kenya Kwanza Presidential candidate William Ruto congratulated his running mate Rigathi Gachagua, after a 2-hour intense debate on Tuesday evening.

Gachagua was facing off longtime politician and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance running mate Martha Karua.

In a Tweet, Ruto said; “Congratulations Rigathi Gachagua my very able running mate. Kenyans are confident that in you we have a seasoned, passionate, and focused leader to help us steer Kenya Kwanza to victory and the nation to prosperity.”

Congratulations Rigathi Gachagua my very able running mate. Kenyans are confident that in you we have a seasoned, passionate and focused leader to help us steer kenya kwanza to victory and the nation to prosperity. We thank almighty God na ubarikiwe saaan. Never mind the media.

    — William Samoei Ruto, PhD (@WilliamsRuto) July 19, 2022

Tharaka Nithi Senator Professor Kithure Kindiki said Gachagua was outright with his delivery.

“Rigathi hit the nail on the head on the issue of state capture. Interestingly, Hon. Karua was reluctant in speaking on that issue lest she implicates her benefactors in Azimio who are at the core of state capture,” Kindiki said.

Kindiki was rated second best after Gachagua, on the contest of becoming Ruto’s running mate.

Other Kenya Kwanza leaders took to social media to hail Gachagua, saying he had performed well.

They include Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.

“Rigathi Gachagua is the radiance of wisdom and brilliance. His critics are shocked but we are not,” Murkomen said.

The Nakuru Senator wrote “Gachagua doing very well in the debate. Telling it like it is. He even brought receipts.”

Gachagua doing very well at the debate! Telling it like it is! He brought receipts … 😂😂 State Capture & Conflict of Interest… we shall revisit!

Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga said “Gachagua has done very well in the debate. Articulate. Sharp. Telling it like it is without fear or favour,” she said.
