NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 20- Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential running mate Martha Karua has a net worth of Sh150 million.

She made the revelation during a running mate’s debate on Tuesday evening.

Karua is deputizing Raila Odinga, a longtime opposition figure in the country and a one-time Prime Minister.

She was facing off Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua, who said he is worth Sh800 million.

“I am not thirsty for land, I am not thirsty for worldly goods, I am happy to have a house I call home and have a house in my father lands, I do not look for property. Not everyone is happy to amass,” she said.

In his case, Gachagua said Sh200 million of his worth has been frozen in an ongoing graft case.

He has since dismissed the charges, saying he was being targeted for being loyal to Deputy President William Ruto, following his bitter fallout with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I had the money when I supported Uhuru in 2013, I still had the money when I supported him in 2017,” he said.

Karua said, “I was really hoping that my colleague would explain to us how and individual finds Sh5 billion in their accounts but I hope one day Kenyans will be able to know, money that was transferred to his accounts in the last 10 years or the Jubilee administration.”

But Gachagua explained that the frozen account only had Sh200 million.

The politician said he earned his money during Kibaki’s era, through working with various government departments. He was then not a politician or working for any government institution.

Gachagua is a former administrator and has a paramilitary training.
