Reprieve For Schools After Gov’t Released Sh16.9 Billion Capitation Funds

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul, 27 – After delays, the government has finally released Sh16.9 billion capitation funds to schools.

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha Tuesday said that the monies have been deposited to the school’s bank accounts.

In the exercise, Sh14.2 billion has been dispatched to secondary schools while Sh2.7 billion has been sent to primary schools.

The move comes as a reprieve to also parents who were forced to accommodate their children at home after failing to clear school fees.

Magoha said that the school heads should now desist from sending children home.

“We want to urge very strongly the principals and head teachers to stop sending children back home for money. They can at least give parents a few more days to sort themselves out where they feel they must engage the parents,” said Magoha.

For instance, Nyandarua is said to have reported a high number of learners sent home due to a lack of school fees.

For the people in Nyandarua, my instructions are very clear for the teachers there, make sure you recall children you have sent home, this is not correct because you have money from the government,” he said.
