KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Jul 30- Police in Kakamega are on the spot after a legislator was captured in a viral video being roughed up.
Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali was seen roughed up by armed police officers.
He had gone to inspect Bukhungu stadium ahead of a mega rally on Sunday, led by the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto.
The MP was manhandled by police who were escorting him to their waiting vehicle.
The officers had alleged that he broke through the gate of the stadium, allowing Kenya kwanza supporters in, after the county officers locked denied them entry.
The MP who was resisting arrest is said to have sustained minor injuries during the commotion, alongside a supporter.
The legislator remained defiant as police tried to force him inside their vehicle.
“Why are you beating me?” he could be heard asking.
“What is it that I had done wrong?”
It is not yet clear whether his team had secured permits for the Sunday rally.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi had said they will stage ‘a mother of all rallies’ at the entry point of the Stadium following their lockout from the venue.
The DP was expected in Kakamega to hold his final rally in the region as his campaigns enter the homestretch.
