NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 31- President Uhuru Kenyatta says he has no harm to leaders aligned to Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance, after days of the onslaught.
Led by DP Ruto, the leaders have accused the President of planning ‘bad things’ against them, days before the election.
On Saturday, Kenya Kwanza Deputy Presidential candidate Rigathi Gachagua asked the President, “not to kill us the way your father killed JM Kariuki.”
In a quick rejoinder, the President denied having plans to harm the leaders, saying he was ready to exit the office.
“There is no need of telling people I want to kill you, yet you have been insulting me for almost 3 years and no one touched you,” he said.
“I was still the President during those 3 years and I had the powers. Now that I am about to hand over the government, do I have time to come looking for you?”
He was speaking during the Nairobi expressway official launch on Sunday.
DP Ruto, Gachagua and other leaders in the Kenya Kwanza coalition have sustained their attacks on the President after he came out drumming for his preferred successor, Raila Odinga.
The President and his Deputy have read from a different political script since 2018. Ruto has blamed it on the political pact between the President and Odinga, following a prolonged electioneering period that was marred with incidents of violence.
“There is no need for insults and when I answer you lies do not tell people I want to kill you…. Sell your agenda and stories and leave me alone. I will do my job and complete it. You go and ask the electorate for votes, if they elect you that’s fine and if not, we will go home together,” the Head of State said on Sunday.
The DP accused the President of threatening him and his allies in the Kenya Kwanza brigade telling him to bring it on as he is not scared.
“As long as you don’t kill my children, I am ready to face you in this election with your project,” Ruto said during a campaign tour in Nandi Conty.
“Mr. President, you shouldn’t be the source of threats in Kenya. Stop threatening Kenyans. Your work is to ensure that all Kenyans are safe. Stop telling us that we will know that you’re the President.”
