    By Brenda Wawire,

KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Jul 31- The Kakamega County elections coordinator Joseph Ayatta has warned politicians indulging in electoral violence to stop or risk facing disciplinary action from the commission.

Speaking at the Kakamega county IEBC’s offices, Ayatta said he had received reports of a few politicians who are going against the peace pact they signed and vowed to maintain harmony throughout the electoral period.

Ayatta named Khwisero, Matungu, Malava, Navakholo and parts of Mumias as hot spot areas.

He said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission was ready to ensure that enough security is deployed in the mapped-out areas.

He assured the electoral body is ready for the August 9 elections. Already, he said electoral materials were already streaming in from the national office.

His sentiments were echoed by religious leaders in Kakamega county who have in turn asked IEBC through their chairman Wafula Chebukati to ensure a credible election on August 9.

The religious leaders were led by Rev Boniface Mbwanga, who is in charge of justice and peace in Kakamega catholic church and Sheikh Idris Muhammed, an Imam at the Kakamega Jamia mosque who doubles up as Chairman council of imams and preachers of Kenya.

They pointed out that it is the mandate of the commission to conduct a free and fair election, so as to avoid plunging the country into violence.

The leaders were speaking in Kakamega at the IEBC offices during a meeting organized by IEBC for non-state actors to brief on the preparedness for the elections.

They have called upon politicians to cease using the youth to cause violence.
