NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 31- Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has released a voice recording of an alleged plan to rig the August 9 general elections.
Sonko who ditched Raila Odinga led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance and joined Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance has promised to release part two of the recording.
The audio allegedly features Azimio la Umoja Secretary General Junet Mohamed.
A man captioned as the legislator is heard speaking to another, alleged to be an official at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
The two agrees to meet at 6pm.
IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati’s name and that of other commissioners are mentioned.
MP Mohamed has however come out to deny such plans saying the voice has been manipulated to sound like his.
He has urged the investigating bodies to, “move with speed and investigate the matter, unearth the perpetrators and bring them to the law.”
Sonko is known for recording phone conversations but it is not clear where he got the one he shared on Sunday.
It comes a few days to the August 9 election and at a time when the political temperatures have drastically increased.
