NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug, 4 – It appears to be a victory for the Kenya Kwanza-led presidential candidate William Ruto after the High Court granted them orders allowing them to hold their final rally at the Nyayo National Stadium on August 6, 2022.
Kenya kwanza was involved in a spat with Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya Alliance over who had secured the venue.
High Court Judge Justice Joseph sermon issued temporary orders on the use of the stadium by Kenya Kwanza.
“In the meantime, an interim order is granted suspending the implementation by the defendant/respondent by itself, its servants, employees, agents, successors, assignees or anyone acting or claiming through or under the defendant/respondent of the decision contained in the letter dated July 20, 2022 withdrawing the availability of the suit premises to the applicant on July 6, 2022 pending the interpartes hearing of the aforesaid motion,” reads a part of the order.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Veronica Maina filed a suit petitioning Sports Kenya On August 1, 2022, over the use of the stadium.
The matter was filed under a petition of urgency.
Sports Kenya had last month in a communique said that the Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Center- Kasarani were set to host peace concerts between August 5 to 7 2022.
“We regret to inform you that due to peace concerts scheduled to take place at both Moi International Sports Center- Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium between August 5 to 7, 2022. The facility will not be available for their use,” the letter read in part.
Azimio La Umoja’s Junet Mohammed had last month said that his team was set to hold a rally at the stadium while thanking Kenyans for their support across the country.
UDA however provided a receipt claiming to have booked the stadium challenging their opponents to do the same in order to resolve the matter.
