KIRINYAGA, Kenya, Aug 9- Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential running mate Martha Karua was among the first Kenyans to cast her vote, as polling stations opened at 6 am on Tuesday morning.
Karua is deputizing Raila Odinga- who the fourth time is seeking to be Kenya’s President, this time with the backing of the incumbent.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has thrown his support behind Odinga, who is running on an anti-corruption platform.
Karua cast her vote in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
In the neighbouring County of Nyeri, Kenya Kwanza’s presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua also cast his vote early.
Gachagua, just like Karua was in the company of his family members and friends.
Odinga is expected to cast his vote at Old Kibera Primary School in Nairobi at 10 am.
His campaign secretariat announced that he will be accompanied by his wife Ida.
Kenya Kwanza Presidential Candidate William Ruto has since cast his vote. Ruto expressed optimism that he would win, in his first attempt on the ballot as a presidential candidate.
“I trust God, that this too will come home,” Ruto said.
