NAKURU, Kenya, Aug, 9 – Protests broke out in Rongai constituency, Nakuru county after elections for the Member of Parliament position was temporarily suspended amid a mix-up in ballot papers.
According to the poll body, ballot papers for the constituency were allegedly unavailable and mixed with that of another constituency.
County IEBC manager Joseph Mele said that the polls body will make further announcements regarding the matter.
Candidates contesting the seat including incumbent MP Raymond Moi of Kanu, Paul Chebor (UDA), and Luka Kigen (CCM) were left crestfallen despite enthusiasm for the elections.
“We need to talk to these returning officers and then they will tell us why this occurred. He should avail himself so that they can explain to Kenya what happened,” said Raymond Moi.
Moi further alleged of a ploy to ‘sabotage the areas’ polls.
“2022 is not the only time IEBC has decided so to speak to rig Raymond out it happened in 2013,2017, why does it take more than three days to get results out of Rongai. We only have 84 thousand registered voters, why does it take more time than it takes to bring in country votes? It is astonishing, Chebukati should come out clearly and say why this had to happen,”
“What happened to their verification process, why when these papers came out from the printing company there wasn’t an IEBC official to check that the proper candidates are in their proper please,” said Moi.
The MP candidates are yet to vote as they wait for the poll boy to pronounce themselves on the mix-up.
