KIRINYAGA, Kenya, Aug, 12 – Anne Waiguru has been re-elected as Kirinyaga governor and is now set to serve for another five years.
Waiguru who ran on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) was involved in a fierce battle to retain her seat against outgoing county woman representative Wangui Ngirici who ran on an Independent candidate ticket.
Ngirici was originally a member of the UDA party before she ditched the party following the entry of Waiguru to the political outfit.
Waiguru garnered 113,088 votes while Ngirici got 105,677 votes.
“I want to thank the people of Kirinyaga because of the confidence that you have shown in me. Despite everything we went through they kept their faith in us and we managed to get this seat,” said Waiguru.
Before the final results were announced by the IEBC, both candidates alleged to election malpractice incidents at the various tallying centers.
Waiguru further said that she is focused on pushing forward her development agenda for Kirinyaga.
