MIGORI, Kenya, Aug, 12 – Fatuma Zainab Mohammed, an independent candidate has won the Migori Woman Representative seat.
Fatuma who lost in the ODM nominations defeated her long-term political competitor Dennitah Ghati by garnering 154, 538 votes against Ghati’s 117,597.
Ghati was the Nominated MP Representing People Living with Disabilities in the 12th Parliament and the first Woman Representative for Migori County.
During the ODM nominations, Fatuma complained of vote rigging by Migori ODM Party officials that awarded Ghati the ODM certificate.
Fatuma who is a businesswoman in Migori County will replace Dr Pamela Odhiambo in the 13th Parliament as the first Woman Representative to win on an independent ticket in Nyanza Region where ODM is the dominant party.
She was declared the winner of the seat by Migori County Returning Officer and Election Manager Ben Moseti.
