NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug, 12 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marjan Hussein Marjan has dismissed claims that the poll body’s election portal has been compromised through way of hacking saying that the systems are fully secure.
While addressing the press at the Bomas of Kenya which is also the national tallying center, Marjan said that the misinformation being spread online regarding the issue is misleading and that the commission has taken all measures to ensure its systems are not compromised.
“We would like to assure the country that nothing like that has happened. Of course, we anticipated that there are people who would try to hack our systems, and we have put mechanisms in place to ensure our systems are basically secured,” he said.
IEBC said that they are constantly monitoring their systems in case of any anomalies and that its IT technicians are working round the clock to ensure a smooth process amid the tallying exercise of the presidential results.
The monitoring of the IEBC systems includes constant surveillance of its, network systems, application system, database system, and even operating system levels.
“Of course, we know people are not sleeping, they want to make sure our systems are down. I don’t think that there is any time that our portal has even twinked, that it was down for even a second, this is because of the mechanism we have put in place,” said Marjan.
The commission has now called on election stakeholders to go through the proper channels while airing their concerns in order to avoid spreading misinformation.
