KISII, Kenya, Aug, 12 – Simba Arati, the outgoing Dagoretti North legislator appears to have defied the odds changing his political base from Nairobi to Kisii and successfully contesting for the gubernatorial seat.
Arati ran for the seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
He was declared the governor-elect after garnering 270, 928 votes.
His closest opponent United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate Ezekiel Machogu garnered 82, 104 votes.
The third candidate, former South Mugirango Mp Manson Nyamweya obtained 32, 537.
Other candidates include Prof Sam Ongeri of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) who garnered 3, 782 votes, and Bishop Josiah Onyancha an independent candidate who garnered 889 votes have conceded defeat.
Arati while celebrating his victory called on his competitors to unite and change the county for the better through development.
