EMBU,Kenya, Aug, 13 – The tallying exercise at Kangaru school, in Embu county came to a standstill after chaos broke out due to delays in the annoucement of election results.

Supporters of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) gubernatorial candidate Cecily Mbarire and Development Empowerment Party (DEP) Lenny Kivuti clashed as the latter demanded the announcement of the election results.

Mbarire who expressed confidence in winning the  gubernatorial seat accused his opponent of frustrating the tallying efforts.

“My form 37 B was stolen after being printed. The officer there said they do not know who took the form. That form has been found in a car of Lenny Kivuti, he’s been arrested by police in Kieni,” she said.

She further accused the Runyejes Returning Officer of delaying the announcement of the election results.

“We want to be assured that we will get our victory. We want to leave here with our results. we will not leave here without our results,” said Mbaarire further saying,“I am not leaving here without my certificate…we are are going to sit here and allow you to finish your work,”

Police were quickly called into action in a bid to restore order.

The tallying exercise is ongoing with the winner of the gubernatorial contest expected to be announced soon.
