KWALE, Kenya, Aug, 13 – United Democratic Alliance (UDA) gubernatorial candidate Fatuma Achani made history after becoming not only the county’s first female governor but also in the Coastal region.
Achani was deputy governor under outgoing governor Salim Maurya.
She managed to defeat Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Hamadi Boga.
Achani garnered 59, 674 votes while Boga garnered 53, 972 votes.
“I want to thank Mvurya for the support that he gave me. I also want to thank my husband. This was a rough journey but I am happy I made it through,” said Achani.
Pamoja Africa Alliance (PAA) candidate Chai Lung’anzi obtained 47,301 votes.
Meanwhile, Kwale Senator Issa Boi defended his seat after garnering 52,772 votes as Fatuma Masito of ODM was elected county Woman Representative after securing 58,820 votes.
