MAKUENI, Kenya, Aug, 14 – Mutula Kilonzo Junior has won the Makueni Governor seat after garnering 214,088 votes on Wiper Democratic Movement party ticket.
The Immediate Makueni senator defeated Patrick Musimba (Independent) who got 63,252 votes and David Masika of ODM party came third with 8,378 votes.
Emmanuel Mutisya (UDA) and Anderson Kaloki (Independent) had 2,929 and 843 votes respectively.
“This is a vote of confidence from the people of Makueni, we will not let you down,” said Kilonzo after being declared the Governor-elect on Saturday afternoon by IEBC at Wote Technical Training Institute on Saturday afternoon.
Kilonzo added that he is ready to assume the office as soon as possible to serve the residents.
At the same time, Makueni Member of Parliament Daniel Maanzo was declared as the Makueni senator elect with 177,273 votes on a Wiper party ticket.
Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana came second with 59,034 and Patrick Mbau of Narc Kenya got 36,676 votes.
Also in the senate race was Victoria Kioko (3,233), Robert Kisyula of UDA (2,901), and Florence Ndiliku got 1,433 votes.
Maanzo lauded the people of Makueni for their support and said he will work together with his competitors in serving the residents.
Makueni County Women Representative Rose Museo has retained her seat for the third time on a Wiper Party ticket with 116,599 votes.
The seat has attracted 10 aspirants.
Maureen Nzioka came second with 56,908 votes, Betty Kingoo 35,112 and Mbula Mutula got 28,960 votes
The outgoing Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau of UDA party got 17,626 votes, Jacinta Kihumba (9,992), Jane Kitundu (8,939), Dorcas Matingi got 7,627 votes.
Damaris Maweu and Grace Mwewa got 4,642 and 3,080 votes respectively.
On her part, Museo said the win is for the people of Makueni.
“I will serve all the resident of Makueni equally without any discrimination or partiality,” she added.
She lauded the people of Makueni for voting Azimio one Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
The results were declared by Makueni County Returning Officer Maurice Raria at Wote Technical Training Institute on Saturday afternoon.
There are a total of 479,401 registered voters in the county.
