NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug, 20 – Sleuths at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are still analyzing CCTV footage that was obtained following the fracas that broke out at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday hours before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati announced the results of the presidential election.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate William Ruto was declared President-Elect.

Ruto narrowly defeated Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga who has since rejected the election results and is expected to pursue legal channels by filing a petition at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

In a statement on Thursday, the National Police Service said that the CCTV footage that captured the incident at the Bomas of Kenya which also doubled up as the National Tallying center is already being analyzed.

Detectives are expected to establish the genesis of the fracas as well as identify individuals that disrupted proceedings at the auditorium.

Additional footage of the incident may also be analyzed as investigations into the incident since prioritized gains momentum.

During the incident, two IEBC commissioners were left nursing injuries amid concerns for their safety.

“This has instilled fear within the staff, who are now unable to report to the office for duty. This harassment must stop forthwith. During the announcement of the presidential results, the Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Commissioners Prof. Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu, and CS/CEO Marjan H. Marjan were physically attacked, assaulted, and injured by persons in the company of certain political leaders. We call for the arrest and prosecution of these assailants regardless of their political affiliation,” said Chebukati.

Police are meanwhile also investigating the murder of Embakasi East Returning Officer Daniel Musyoka who was abducted and found dumped in Loitoktok  Kajiado county.

He was seen at the East Africa School of Aviation where tallying exercise for the elections was being undertaken.

On the fateful day, he is said to have received a phone call and left the venue never to return.

An analysis of his phone records is also being undertaken by detectives from the homicide division of the DCI.
