NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 21- The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has signed a post-election agreement with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, a day after ditching Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

The Kenya Kwanza alliance is led by President-elect William Ruto. UDM is led by Mandera Senator-Elect Ali Roba.

The President-elect welcomed the party and said it was within their political rights to associate with anyone.

A section of Azimio coalition leaders have criticized the President-elect for wooing leaders from their coalition, saying the move risks dragging the country back to the dark days of a one-party state.

“UDM will work with us in parliament and in government as we seek to consolidate the country. Kenya Kwanza and our ideas are broad enough to accommodate all of us,” the President-elect said.

Already, 10 out of the elected independent candidates have joined Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.
