NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug, 22 – The United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriot has condemned the spread of misinformation across various platforms online over her country’s and even her position on the just concluded general elections.
Marriot refuted claims that the UK or herself have endorsed any candidate or political party saying that they do not have a preferred candidate and that that decision solely lies with the Kenyan People.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I want to categorically reiterate that the UK does not support or have a view on any candidates or parties in elections. Who Kenyans elect is a matter for the people of Kenya,”
The High Commissioner made reference to a statement issued by the international community commanding Kenya for conducting peaceful elections.
The statement further hailed Kenya for setting an example to the region and the continent for the just concluded polls while also calling on political parties to follow existing mechanisms for dispute resolution.
“We meet people from across the political spectrum to explain the UK’s programmes and partnership with Kenya, including independent institutions. Kenya will remain a vital partner for the UK through our Strategic Partnership,” she said in tweet.
