KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Aug, 24 – Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa was Tuesday afternoon granted a Sh 10 million bond and a surety of Sh 5 million amid investigations into the killing of Brian Olunga.
Barasa had earlier in the day pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.
The MP was arraigned at the Kakamega Law Courts.
Olunga was an aide to the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K’s) Brian Khaemba who contested the Kimilili seat.
The court has also directed Barasa to surrender his firearm as well as stay away from Bungoma county as investigations continue.
Preliminary investigations amid a postmortem examination revealed that the deceased died after being hit by a bullet on the right side of the head.
He is said to have bled profusely as a result of the incident.
The MP was in police custody for 10 days as investigations on the matter continued.
Sleuths said the MP was at the scene during the incident after using forensic and ballistic evidence to place him and his firearm there.
A forensic analysis is being conducted on Barasa’s Glock Pistol, a cartridge retrieved at the scene, and bullet fragments.
