    Baringo Youths Urged To Take Advantage Of Free ICT Training

    BARINGO, Kenya, Sept 4- Youth in Baringo have been encouraged to enroll in free ICT training courses, being offered at various centers across the county in order to make money online and earn a decent living.

    The county ICT Director Gideon Cherop, speaking during the graduation ceremony of 161 trainees at the Elias ICT center in Kabarnet Town, said the devolved entity was committed to empowering residents with the necessary training on ICT skills free of charge.

    “I wish to congratulate the graduands and want to urge residents of Baringo, especially the youth to enroll for training in our ICT centres across the county in order to empower themselves and earn a living online through the Ajira digital program,” he said.

    Cherop acknowledged partners including the Baringo County Government and best friends from Korea for their immense support in training trainers and equipping the Elias ICT lab that has gone a long way in training over 6000 students since its inception in the year 2014.

    “We have ICT centers in Marigat, Eldama Ravine and Mogotio and an Ajira digital training center at the Kabartonjo NG-CDF offices, so anyone interested in learning can enroll for the two month courses for free,” he added.

    Cherop also thanked Governor Benjamin Cheboi for his support and the local National Government Affirmative Action Fund for the Ajira digital training being undertaken in ICT hubs to enable Kenyans earn a decent living online.

    The centre manager, Felix Kipkulei said the graduands were committed and eager to learn and was confident that they would make an impact wherever they went, as they were equal to task after the rigorous training.

    “The next Ajira digital training will commence on September 6, while the next intake for ICT skills training kicks off in October and I would like to urge anyone interested to come and register for the training,” Kipkulei said.

    Among the courses offered include basic computer skills including computer packages and advanced computer skills training such as hardware and software maintenance as well as graphic design.

    Residents can also access free WiFi in these centers, added the center manager.

    One of the beneficiaries of the program, Milly Ruto told KNA that she was grateful to the county government for the opportunity as the training would greatly assist her, even as she aspires to joins university later this month.
