NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 11 – President-elect William Ruto during a thanksgiving service in Meru county reiterated his economic transformation agenda for the country saying that Kenyans can count on him to deliver his promises.
Ruto in his address said that once his swearing-in ceremony is complete he will get straight to work while also noting that a lot is happening behind the scenes to ensure that he honors his campaign pledges to mwananchi.
Seemingly top of his agenda is reducing the cost of living, by reviewing the prices of basic commodores that have skyrocketed in recent months.
“I have held a meeting with officials in the Agriculture Ministry and I will announce the new fertilizers prices that we will reduce this coming week. We are starting the journey of changing Agriculture in this country from next week,” he said.
The county is part of a region that majorly relies on Agriculture for a living through the sale of farm produce such as coffee, tea, and khat (miraa).
The fluctuating prices of fertilizers is said to have immensely affected farmers’ economic fortunes.
“Also, I want to tell you that I have held meetings with the Agriculture ministry so that we also reduce the cost of flour in this country,” said Ruto.
The Agriculture industry which is said to be plagued by ‘cartels’ Ruto noted will be a thing of the past as he promised to deal with them forthwith.
“Leave the cartels to me, once I put the bible down on Tuesday (after swearing-in) I will deal with them,” he said while also calling on Kenyans to honour their obligations to pay taxes.
“I am looking forward to the day when we can borrow from the savings from the people of Kenya to run our development instead of borrowing from other countries and that is what holds the future for us. I am encouraging the people of Kenya as we work together, to get our economy out of the mud, I am asking every Kenyan that we must do two very important things, each and every one of us must pay their taxes and I have said I am going to lead from the from in making sure I pay my taxes,”
Ruto is expected to be sworn in as the country’s fifth president on Tuesday in a ceremony set to be graced by at least 20 foreign heads of state.
