NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 11 – The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has revealed that a Fireworks Extravaganza will be witnessed in the country’s capital Nairobi ahead of the much anticipated commissioning of the Uhuru and Central Park.
According to a public notice by NMS, the spectacle will take place between 7 to 8 pm on Monday, 12,2022.
“Members of the public are advised to anticipate & enjoy the display,” read a section of the notice.
The parks were initially set to be reopened by the end of July but the move was ultimately delayed.
Renovations at the parks have taken close to one year since works commenced on September 2021.
The new loom parks will now consist of a modern garden with waterfronts. these will further include, a plant nursery, skating park, nature trail, outdoor library, jogging and cycling tracks, maintenance yard, offices, and shearer garden.
Landmarks within the parks including the iconic Nyayo statue and Mau Mau freedom fighters monuments have also been renovated.
The freedom corner in remembrance of Prof. Wangari Maathai has also received a facelift.
Eateries are also expected to be put up in the park.
The rehabilitation works which come 52 years after the green spaces were first opened to the public involved construction of various buildings & landscaping features that include; a play ground, an outdoor gym, jogging tracks, botanical trails, outdoor library and a skating park.
Uhuru Park was gazetted and opened to the public by Kenya’s first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta on 23rd May 1969 in embodiment of the country’s freedom.
The revamped green spaces will play a critical role in environmental pollution management, social- economic development of the nation as well as the physical well-being of citizens.
