NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 23- The National Police Service says the 60,000 Kasarani Stadium was packed to capacity by 5 am, ahead of President-elect William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua’s swearing-in.

An alternative ground with a capacity of 20,000 had been prepared, for the overflowing crowd to follow the proceedings from giant screens.

In a statement, police service spokesperson Bruno Shioso urged Kenyans to follow the proceedings from the comfort of their home, in a bid to avoid logistical challenges.

    3. To avoid logistical challenges, this is to request the public to make alternative arrangements to view the proceedings, especially from the comfort of their homes.

Some 20 Heads of State and 2,500 VIPs are expected to grace the event.

Already, several Heads of State led by Rwanda’s Paul Kagame have since arrived, and met the President-elect.

“We have a space at the main arena which will accommodate an overflow of about 20,000 but beyond that, we request Kenyans to follow the event live from the comfort of their living rooms because it will be aired live on all stations,” Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Karanja Kibicho said on Monday.
