NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 16 – In a gazette notice, Chief Justice Martha Koome has gazetted the list of 104 judges and magistrates that will now hear and determine 123 election petitions that arose from the August, 9 elections.
The gazette notice was published on Friday.
12 of the petitions pertain to gubernatorial seats and two senatorial seats.
Also, 28 petitions are for Member of the National Assembly, 77 for the Member of County Assembly, and four petitions for county woman representative seats.
According to statistics, the number of election petitions has reduced from 388 disputes filed after the 2017 General Election and 188 in the 2013 elections.
According to the notice from the CJ, the petitions will be heard by judges and magistrates drawn from court stations away from the concerned electoral areas.
For instance petitions from Wajir, Garissa and Mandera will require petitioners to travel to Nairobi for the hearing at the High Court in Milimani.
All the Election Petitions must be heard and determined within six months.
