NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 20- President Dr. William Ruto is expected to chair a meeting on climate change during the ongoing 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA.
Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday said the President will chair a meeting of the Conference of African Heads of State on Climate Crisis.
Kenya like many other African countries is facing dire effects of climate change and more so a prolonged drought, that has left millions of people without food.
He is also set to meet a number of leaders with whom they will discuss bilateral relations. This is Ruto’s first trip to the US as President.
The Ministry said the Head of State’s participation in the meeting was important, “for Kenya, as the country seeks to complete the second year of its non-permanent membership to the United Nations Security Council.”
