NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept, 27 – President William Ruto Tuesday morning convened his first cabinet meeting since his swearing-in on September 13, 2022.
The cabinet meeting took place at State House Nairobi with all Cabinet Secretaries and the Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua in attendance.
This is the first time all the Cabinet Secretaries have been in the same place at the same time since Ruto took power.
A section of the CSs noticeably took sides during the campaigns backing Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance candidate Raila Odinga for the presidency.
Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, and Agriculture CS Peter Munya were among those that backed Odinga for the country’s top seat vehemently opposing William Ruto’s bid.
They clashed with Ruto on the campaign trail saying that he was not the best candidate to lead the country.
Amid the meeting, Ruto is expected to announce his new cabinet in the coming weeks amid much anticipation. It is a tough assignment with the president expected to consider several factors including gender, regional balance, and even ‘rewarding of loyalists’ for the 22 cabinet positions.
Ruto has pledged to nominate a cabinet that represents the face of Kenya.
