NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 27- Prof Kithure Kindiki is set to be the new man in charge of the country’s Interior Security, following his nomination by President William Ruto.
He was formerly a Senator representing Tharaka Nithi County.
Kindiki will work in coordination with the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in the docket in the coordination of ministries and departments.
His Ministry will now be called Interior and National Administration.
The Ministry is responsible for security provision, management, and oversight in the National Government Ministries and State Departments.
If his nomination is approved by the National Assembly, he will assume the docket at a time when there are rising insecurity levels and the banditry challenge in parts of Rift Valley.
Unlike in the previous administration, he will not be in charge of the National Police Service budget, after the President designated the Inspector General of Police as the Accounting Officer.
The 50-year-old was among probable nominees for the Deputy President position.
Kindiki was born and raised in Tharaka in Tharaka-Nithi County. He attended Lenana School and Tharaka Boys High School for his secondary education.
In 2002 he graduated with a Ph.D. in International Law from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
In the year 2000 he obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Human Rights Law and Democracy from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and in 1998, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the Moi University, Kenya.
He also attended the Advocates’ Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies, (Kenya School of Law, 2001) is a requirement in Kenya’s Legal Education for one to qualify as an advocate after completing a bachelor’s degree in law.
