NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct, 15 – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has a new boss, Amin Mohammed Ibrahim.
Ibrahim was announced as the new Director of the DCI in a gazette notice dated October,14,2022.
He was appointed by President William Ruto after the National Police Service (NPSC) forwarded the names of three candidates after it concluded its vetting for consideration and appointment.
Candidates interviewed for the Position included Nicholas Kamwende, former Anti-Terrorism Police Unit Boss Munga Nyale, Bernard Marasa Walumoli, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat; Esther Chepkosgei Seroney, David Kipkosgey Birech, Jonyo Michael Wiso, Paul Ndambuki, and Simon Wanderi, the Head of Investigations at Kenya Railways.
Ibrahim, who is a reputable and distinguished investigator served as the immediate former head of the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).
At the IAU, he spearheads investigations after complaints are filed against police officers. The Unit was established under section 87 of the National Police Service Act No.11A of 2011.
The unit was operationalized on July 15, 2013. It is currently housed in separate premises from the rest of the National Police Service.
Ibrahim has served in the National Police service for over 30 years.
The officer who holds the rank of senior Assistant Inspector General of Police has also served as the director of the Banking Fraud Unit and Director of Investigations at the DCI Headquarters.
He also served as Rift valley Regional DCI boss at the height of the 2007 post-election violence.
His predecessor George Kinoti resigned from his post before the end of his tenure in news announced by president William Ruto. Knots has since been redeployed to the Public Service Commission.
