NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 19- The new DCI Director Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, has called on detectives to be forthright in their investigations and serve Kenyans without prejudice, in strict conformity to the law.
The DCI chief who was sworn into office this morning got straight into business, by meeting directors of various departments and section heads based at DCI headquarters.
Amin who expressed his delight at being back to where he belonged, noted that whereas a majority of Kenyans were happy with the work done by detectives so far, a few rotten eggs existed in the agency and there was need to deal with them within the established disciplinary mechanisms.
The DCI Chief who committed to starting his tour of duty with a clean slate called on detectives to execute their duties with integrity while upholding professionalism and confidentiality.
“The Service Standing Orders (SSO) are very clear on the conduct of police officers and you are urged to strictly operate within the confines of the SSO while observing the chain of command,” said the director.
While urging the officers to work as a family in delivering a safe and secure environment for Kenyans, Amin committed to ensure that investigations were audited daily and in greater detail with a fine-tooth comb, so that files forwarded for prosecution meet the required threshold to secure convictions.
On pending, human resource issues and welfare such as promotions and deployments, the Director whose in-tray is already full observed that he would be taking action progressively to ensure that the needs and requirements of every officer were addressed in a fair manner.
After addressing the officers, a brief handover ceremony was conducted, with Dr. Hamisi Masa, who was heading the directorate in an acting capacity passing over the baton to the new director.
The DCI Director was sworn into office this morning at the Supreme Court, in a ceremony presided over by the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Hon Lady Justice, Martha Koome. Also present during the ceremony were the Ag Inspector General Noor Gabow, the Chairman National Police Service Commission Eliud Kinuthia and the Deputy Inspector General in-charge of the Kenya Police Service, Edward Mbugua, among other senior officers and commissioners of the NPSC.
