MERU, Kenya, Oct, 27 – Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza is staring at a possible legal battle after a resident filed a petition to have her removed from office over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.
The petition was filed at the Meru County Assembly by Activist Sales Thuranira.
Already the county assembly clerk said that its legal team will access the petition pending further directives.
If the petition will achieve the legal threshold required by law then it will be debated before the house next week.
In his petition, Thuranira alleged that the hiring of the county revenue board general manager, Francis Mungai was done in contravention of the revenue board Act.
“This was contrary to section six of the Meru Revenue Board Act, 2014 which establishes that such appointments must undergo a competitive process and shall be subject to the approval by the County Assembly,” read a section of the petition.
Mwangaza has been embroiled in a brutal public spat with the County Members of the County Assembly in recent days.
She has been accused of being inconsiderate of area leaders’ pleas to harmonious working relations.
Kawira has since denied the allegations even after ejecting the MCAs from a whatsApp group she formed to deliberate development issues affecting the counties.
The Decision to delegate duties to her husband, Murega Baicu has also been condemned alongside the formation of her cabinet.
Mwangaza has been accused of nepotism after she allegedly employed her cousin, two sisters, and even her son-in-law to various positions in the county government.
“it is uncontroverted that Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has violated, infringed and threatened the constitution and all other relevant provisions of the law hence the grounds of gross misconduct and abuse of office are substantiated,”
If approved the governor may be summoned to defend herself from the allegations.
