NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov, 1 – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohammed Amin has effected major changes to the administration of the investigating wing of the National Police Service.
Most noticeably, the head of the Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) Obadiah Kuria has been redeployed and reassigned as the head of investigations in Turkana county.
At the DCI Mazingira Complex-based headquarters, Abdallah Komesha, has been appointed as the head of personnel. He previously served as the head of the National Centre for Counter-terrorism.
The Head of DCI Railways Dr Wanderi Mwangi will now head the planning department of the directorate, Coast Region Boss Bernard Baraza will now spearhead operations at the Reforms department as Amos Omuga was appointed to head the legal department of the DCI.
Central Region Criminal Investigations Officer Bernard Nyakwaka was also reassigned to the DCI headquarters and appointed Director of Complaints.
The Head of Operations in Nairobi region, Said Kiprotich has also been appointed the Head of Operation at the DCI headquarters.
The Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) will now be headed by outgoing DCI Head in Nyanza John Onyango.
DCI boss Amin termed the changes as routine and geared towards improving the operations of the DCI.
He recently took over as director replacing George Kinoti who resigned from office.
The Anti-Narcotics Unit of the DCI also has a new boss in Margaret Karanja who previously served as the Director of Forensics.
At the Regional level, Marsabit County Criminal Investigations Officer,Bethuel Oburu was promoted to the position of Central Kenya regional DCI boss while Francis Wanjau, who was the DCI boss in Kisumu County, was promoted to the position of Rift Valley Regional DCI boss.
All the officers are said to be of the rank of Assistant Inspector General of police.
