NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov, 1 – Kenya is mourning the death of Africa’s largest Female Tusker, known within the conservation spaces as Dida.

Dida who was a matriarch residing at the Tsavo East National Park is said to have died due to natural causes according to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

“We are saddened by the death of Dida who was possibly Africa’s largest female Tusker and a Matriarch residing in Tsavo East National Park. She died from natural causes due to old age having lived a full life to about 60-65 years old,” said KWS.

The wildlife service described her as a great repository of many decades worth of knowledge.

“She shepherd her herd through many seasons and challenging times. She served as both the subject to various documentaries and an iconic tourist attraction. Those who got to know her through pictures and videos as well as those who had the exquisite pleasure of meeting her in person will remember her,”

Tsavo is home to at least 12,000 elephants.

Earlier today an elephant in imenti forest also died as a result of syarvation and exhaustion.

Officials from the Sheldrick Wildlife trust attempted to resuscitate the jumbo but their efforts proved futile.

In 2020 Kenya also mourned the death of the iconic jumbo names,’Big Tim’.

Big Tim roamed the scenic Amboseli National Park and died of what the ministry said was natural causes aged 50 years in February 4, 2020.

Tim was known for his long, enormous tusks, which nearly grazed the ground he walked on. Each of he’s tusks are said to have weighed up to 45 kilograms.

A Post-mortem examination results showed that Tim died from a twisted gut.

His remains are preserved at the National Museums of Kenya for exhibition and education purposes.
