NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov, 6 – Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Kipchumba Saturday launched a food distribution and livestock off-take exercise at LogLogo in Laisamis Constituency, Marsabit County.
Speaking at the launch, CS Murkomen affirmed the Government’s resolve to mitigate the ongoing food crisis even as it implements long-term solutions to protect Kenyans from the vagaries of drought.
“Food security is a top priority for the Government of H.E. President William Ruto both in the short term and the long term. As a Government, we are focusing on food distribution exercises and livestock off-take programmes that include the purchase and slaughter of livestock, as well as extensive distribution, together with rice and beans,” he said.
On cases of insecurity that have for years gripped the region, CS Murkomen said measures have been put in place to ensure the region is safe and bring to an end cases of cattle rustling.
“I wish to warn bandits that their days are numbered. As a Government, we are committed to bringing to an end cases of insecurity in this and other regions,” he said.
In addition, he expressed the Government’s interest in exploring ways in which the National Police Reservists (NPR) can be incorporated in security efforts in the region and beyond.
The Transport Cabinet Secretary further urged the people of Marsabit to abandon cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) that have prevented girls from attending school and attaining education, and embrace Government’s efforts to empower the girl child.
On climate change, CS Murkomen said the Government will implement cross-cutting measures and policies that would reduce carbon emissions, expand forest cover, and protect the environment in an effort to curb climate change.
Also present at the launch was Marsabit Governor H.E. Mohamud Ali among other leaders.
