NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 8 – The Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) pilots on strike have been ordered to return to work by the Employment and Labour Relations Court by Wednesday, November 9.
Lady Justice Anna Ngibuini Mwaure ordered all KALPA members to resume their duties unconditionally.
In her ruling, she directed the Kenya Airways (KQ) management not to harass, intimidate or threaten to sack them.
She directed KALPA to file their responses to the suit by KQ by Friday, the case will be up for mention on November 21.
Before giving the orders she had directed the two parties to reach an agreement and provide a report to the court on their resolutions.
She said that she regretted that the airline had made losses amounting to millions of shillings due to the strike that has been in place for the last four days.
The KALPA pilots went on strike on Saturday, November 5, demanding that KQ pays them salaries owed due to the pandemic and resume contributions to staff pension. They also want the KQ board and executives removed.
On Monday, KQ boss Allan Kilavuka said that the pilots who would not return to work by Tuesday would get replaced.
“They either come to work or we replace them,” he said.
