NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 9 – Kenyans seeking to travel to South Africa will no longer require Visas beginning January 1, 2023.
The announcement was made at State House Nairobi by Kenya’s President William Ruto and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa.
It comes after the two held bilateral talks following Ramaphosa’s two-day visit to Kenya.
“Kenyans holding ordinary passports will be able to enter South Africa on a visa-free regime for up to 90 days per calendar year,” said Ruto.
He said that Kenya and South Africa had agreed on a return policy when immigration laws and regulations are breached by individuals to sure that they are dealt with.
Ruto and Ramaphosa also agreed on mechanisms aimed at identifying, monitoring and resolving barriers limiting trade between the two counties.
Ruto said that the two countries could only reap the benefits and MOUs and agreements through effective implementation.
“We have agreed that indeed Kenyans should be able to visit South Africa without requiring them to have visas and that this dispensation will commence on January 1, 2023,” Ramaphosa said.
The agreement can see one use the 90 days cumulatively or separately.
