KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Nov 9 – A man was been shot dead and another injured as police battled to prevent a mob that wanted to lynch a student accused of theft in Shamberere, Malava in Kakamega.
According to Police reports, the irate mob was in the process of lynching the student who schools at the Shamberere Technical Training Institute when they were alerted of the incident.
The mob is said to have pelted the Police with stones when they came to rescue the victim, forcing them to shoot at the mob in defence.
Reports indicate that in the commotion a man identified as Collins Wilunda Ndumbi,26, was shot dead and Kelvin Alusiola,30, sustained injuries.
The student and four officers who were injured from the incident were then rushed to Malava Sub-County Hospital where they received treatment.
The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary as investigations into the incident continued.
