NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – The Principal Secretary nominee of the Treasury docket Chris Kiptoo has told the National Assembly Finance Committee that he is worth Sh338 million.
Kiptoo who appeared before the committee on Monday, November 14, said that his net worth is drawn from property investments which include houses and land in Nairobi as well as his salary and farming business.
When asked about his goal if he is confirmed as the next Treasury PS, he said that he will work to broaden the tax base ensuring that everyone is on board.
He said that the strategies to increase the tax base will be friendly to everyone adding that the government is not looking to hurt anyone through taxation.
“We will engage with professionals in KRA on how to broaden the tax base without hurting businesses and taxpayers,” he said.
Kiptoo also said that he will hold discussions to see how to tax land and properties among other types of wealth all in a bid to increase the tax base.
“I want to assure Kenyans that I will deal with the issues of wastage of resources,” Kiptoo said.
Kiptoo who was the first among the 51 PS nominees to be grilled, is currently the PS for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Before he was moved to the docket, he was PS in the Ministry of Trade Ministry.
