NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 15 – Cabinet has proposed the return of specialized Police Units to deal with the rising cases of crime in the country.
The officers making up the units will be drawn from the General Service Unit and the Rapid Deployment Unit. This announcement follows a Cabinet meeting that was chaired by President William Ruto on Tuesday, November 15.
The cabinet proposals will also see the return of multi-agency coordination between security organs and operators at all points of entry into the country to fight the trafficking of drugs.
The meeting also led to the approval of a legal and institutional framework to anchor the establishment and implementation of the Financial Inclusion Fund (Hustlers Fund).
The fund will be rolled out on November 30, and the loan limits range from Sh500 up to Sh50,000 attracting interest of eight per cent annually.
The government will also establish a Centre for Entrepreneurship which will be within Kenya Industrial Estates. The program is supported by the German government targeting 250,000 youths.
The government through the Ministry of Health has reactivated the National Task Force on the Ebola Virus Disease and heightened surveillance at border points.
