KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Nov 22 – Police were involved in running battles with Masinde Muliro University students in Kakamega town who were rioting after a 5th-year student was brutally murdered and his body dumped in Mahiakalo, a few metres from the university compound.
The body of the late fifth-year student who was pursuing an engineering course at the university was discovered in the wee hours of Tuesday by neighbours.
A fellow student was found lying in critical condition next to the deceased and is undergoing treatment at the Kakamega County Referral Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Kakamega County Police Commander Joseph Kigen said that the deceased could have been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped there suspecting that it could be a love triangle case.
Students led by Hamaton Musembe have blamed the security apparatus for rising cases of insecurity and want action taken to ensure the security of the students.
Police officers had a rough time calming down the rowdy students who lit old tires blocking operations on the Kakamega – Webuye highway for hours.
