18 Suspects are in police custody following a series of murder in Lurambi Sub County.
28 people most of them watchmen are alleged to have been murdered in the past two weeks by unknown people within the town.
The problem emerged a month ago when traders from Kakamega town attacked and killed five street children accusing them of theft.
A week later, the insecurity alarm rang with two to three bodies being discovered almost on a daily basis. Most of the victims are watchmen employed to guard stalls in the market.
According to the Kakamega County Commissioner John Ondego, the killings are as a result of revenge from the street family that was attacked by the traders.
Ondego revealed that they have arrested 18 suspects in connection with the murders and investigations are ongoing.
Security measures have been put in place by the security department and hours of operation within the town have been restricted between 9pm and 5am as a way to curb the deaths.
Leaders from the region led by the Lurambi MP Titus Khamala and Shieywe ward representative Moses Musundi have threatened to incorporate the GSU in fighting the incidents that are on the rise lately as past security meetings in the region have not borne any fruits.
