MANADERA, Kenya, Nov 30 – A Primary School headteacher is in police custody in Mandera East as an investigation into how three candidates sitting for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) were found in possession of mobile phones.
Mandera County Criminal Investigations boss Bernadict Kigen said the three phones were confiscated by a supervisor at Tawakal Primary School on the outskirts of Mandera town.
“We have a centre manager with us. We are interrogating him on how these candidates ended up with mobile phones in the examination room,” Mr Kigen said.
According to Mr Kigen, the police are looking for another centre manager suspected to be behind the examination leakage in Mandera East.
“We have leads and reliable information that whatever was shared in these phones came from Barwaqo Primary School and we are looking for the school headteacher as we conclude our investigations,” he said.
Yesterday, a police officer was injured at Tawakal Primary School after unknown persons halted stones in the school.
“We are suspecting our officer was injured by people who wanted to sneak in mobile phones but were being blocked. We shall understand all these once we arrest the other suspects and conclude our investigations,” Mr Kigen said.
As Mr Abdi Billow, the centre manager of Tawakal Primary cooled his heels in the police cells, the three candidates were allowed to continue with the Tuesday morning examinations.
